What is and what isn’t included?
Find out how the costs of a funeral plan work, and discover what is fixed, what isn’t, and whether there are any extra’s that you’ll have to pay
As a family-run business, we pride ourselves on being totally open and transparent with all our clients. If there is something you are not sure of then please don’t hesitate to call.
All funerals are made up of a variety of products and services that come together to form the funeral as a whole. This includes things such as the coffin, care of the body, and transport on the day. The majority of these are provided by, and carried out by, us (the Funeral Directors) and are included in all our pricing.
There are however, some aspects of a funeral that are carried out by, or provided by, third parties such as the Crematoria or Burial Grounds. We call the cost of these services 'Disbursements'. The most common disbursements in our funeral plans are cremation fees, celebrants fees and doctors fees but any fee paid by Peace Funerals to a third party for their services to fulfil the plan is a disbursement.
Any disbursements for your funeral could increase over time as the third parties change their fees. Money that you have set aside in your plan for disbursements will grow over the lifetime of the plan. This gives you some protection against increasing disbursement costs.

Fixed Funeral Director Costs
Disbursement (Price follows CPI)
Please note - The funds in your plan set aside for Disbursement costs (services not provided by us) grow in line with the Trust's investments over the lifetime of your plan. If the actual cost of the disbursements has grown by more than this at the time that the funeral is carried out, then the difference would be payable by the person organising the funeral. When there is such a balance payable, and often there isn’t one, it should be relatively small in terms of the overall cost of the funeral.
There is a £500 difference between the at-need price and the equivalent funeral plan price. This includes the £250 admin fee and an inflation cushion.
Is a funeral plan right for me? - If you want your funeral to be paid for and arranged in advance, a funeral plan could be the right choice for you. Our funeral plans include a contribution towards the costs paid to third parties (like church fees and cremation fees).
An alternative approach is to buy over 50s life cover to help cover funeral costs. This insurance provides a cash sum to your family when you die, however, this amount isn’t guaranteed to cover the costs of a funeral. Peace Funerals do not provide this type of insurance.

Your funds are set aside in an independent trust
The Peace Ethical Trust was established in 2022. The Trust holds and invests funds that a person has set aside for his or her funeral.
There are many funeral planning organisations that offer a similar service. However, what makes The Peace Ethical Trust distinctive is that they are driven by a desire to put their customers first and act ethically in everything they do. As such, they are the first choice for all Peace Funerals plans.
